Sturbridge, MA – Fifteen years after Gary Galonek graduated from the Isenberg School of Management at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, he gladly headed back to his alma mater. Galonek, Executive Account Manager, was invited to speak to Professor Derone Goldman's Promotional Strategies class by Ericka Prew, the Associate Director of Development and head of Alumni Relations. Facilitating a 90 minute lecture for approximately 45 juniors and seniors, Galonek focused on one of All Star's successful custom consumer programs for Duracell. All Star, a family owned and operated business, has been a leader in the incentive industry for over thirty years.

Galonek explained to the marketing students that Duracell's objective was "to advance consumer support of VH1 and the Power of Music promotional tie-in." All Star was called upon to develop and source an appropriate consumer incentive. The CD case that All Star designed connected to the tie-in campaign and targeted the demographic. Galonek described how his brother, Ed Galonek Jr., went to China to work hand-in-hand with manufacturers to produce and import the product. Special in-store retail displays were created to incorporate the CD case gift-with-purchase program. A free CD case was offered with the purchase of batteries. A total of 1,000,000 CD cases were needed to satisfy store demands.

To wrap up his talk, Galonek gave every student a CD case and discussed the surge of incentive marketing in today's business world. Galonek remembered that when he was at UMass, Amherst as a marketing major, "courses in promotion and incentives did not exist." He recalled looking up "promotion/incentives" in his marketing textbook and "only finding one short paragraph within 500-plus pages." He stated that he was "enthused to now discover an entire course devoted to 'Promotional Strategies'."
